Project Overview

Louisiana Cold Case Project is a volunteer research initiative led by a licensed private investigator and former hostage negotiator. Originally known as Sleuth & Justice, the project researches, verifies, and organizes Louisiana homicides and select missing person cases that have remained unsolved for five years or longer.

Case profiles are published here and shared through social media to rekindle public awareness and make accurate information more accessible. By building a carefully researched, regionally organized repository, the project seeks to spark a memory, generate leads, and inspire action!

Unsolved Homicide Data

More than 8,600 Louisiana homicide records from 1976–2025 are coded as “uncleared” in data compiled by the Murder Accountability Project. The dataset may include reporting gaps, errors, or cases that were later solved, but it illustrates the scale of Louisiana’s unresolved homicide history.

We’re working to independently review these figures through public records requests to approximately 185 law enforcement agencies and individual case research. Cases are added to the repository only after their status has been verified through the investigating agency or other public records.

Standards & Integrity Protocols

Status Verification: Whenever possible, case status is confirmed with the primary investigating agency before inclusion. Cases added without direct agency confirmation are clearly identified. Public records obtained for research and verification are not routinely published.

Evidentiary Protection: Information found that could compromise an active investigation is excluded from public profiles and provided directly to the appropriate investigating agency.

Research Methodology: Profiles are developed from verifiable sources, including law enforcement records, court filings, other official records and historical newspapers. We do not initiate contact with victim families out of respect for their privacy, but family members who contact the project are welcome to contribute information.

Resolved Cases: Once law enforcement confirms that a case has been solved or cleared, the profile is moved to a searchable solved archive.

Case Submissions: Submissions are accepted from family members, law enforcement, and the public. Case status is verified before adding to the repository.

Case Contributors: Researchers who develop and author original case profiles may be credited as contributors. Supporting source documents must be provided so information can be independently reviewed. Profiles are based on documented facts rather than public theories or speculation; potential suspects or persons of interest are included only when supported by law enforcement information.

Tips: Whenever possible, firsthand information should be reported directly to the investigating agency. Those who prefer may submit information through our Tip Form for forwarding to the appropriate authorities. The Louisiana Cold Case Project does not offer rewards.
