About Cold Case Project
Project Overview
The Louisiana Cold Case Project is a volunteer research initiative led by a licensed private investigator and former hostage negotiator. Originally known as Sleuth & Justice for several years, recently rebranded. The project compiles, verifies, and organizes homicides and select missing persons, unsolved for five years or longer, into accurate case profiles.
To rekindle public awareness, the profiles are then published here and on various social media platforms.Our goal is to produce well-researched, widely accessible profiles that may spark a memory and generate new information.
State Murder Stats
More than NUMBER Louisiana homicides occured between 1976-2025, 8600 of which are “uncleared” according to data analyzed by the Murder Accountability Project. While this dataset may contain reporting gaps, errors and cases that were later solved, it demonstrates the magnitude of our state’s unresolved homicide history.
Standards & Integrity Protocols
Public record requests for unsolved homicide information is being requested from all law enforcement agencies [TOTAL NUMBER] in Louisiana is in progress. Once analyzed, the results will be shared.
Status Verification: Whenever possible, case status is confirmed with the primary investigating agency prior to inclusion in our database. Those included without verification are clearly indicated as such.Documents obtained through public records requests are used for research and verification. Source documents are not routinely published.
Evidentiary Protection: Information discovered that could compromise an active investigation is excluded from profiles, and immediately provided to the appropriate investigating agency.
Research Methodology: Case profiles are built from verifiable sources, including law enforcement records, public record requests, court filings, historical newspapers, and other official records when possible. While we do not reach out to victim families to respect their privacy acknowledging that not everyone is comfortable speaking about their loss, we welcome their contact and will speak with them.
Resolved Cases: Once confirmed solved or cleared by law enforcement, cases are moved into a searchable solved archive.
Case submissions are accepted from family, law enforcement and the community. However all submission will first be verified by law enforcement prior to inclusion.
Case Contributors are welcome and encouraged. CCs are appropriately credited when having researched and authored an original case profile. This is not an automated process, copies of source documents must be included for accuracy verification. Think facts, not public theories or speculation. Inclusion is appropriate only when posited by law enforcement.
Tips: While we are willing to forward case tips to law enforcement…Whenever possible, firsthand information should be reported directly. If you prefer, you may submit information through our Tip Form for forwarding to the appropriate authorities. We do not offer rewards.
