Background

Kimieco Thompson was born on 01/16/1967 to Costroma Thompson and Lucille Johnson. She had five siblings: Alestia, Andree, Costrina, Otto and Owen. She was also the mother of a daughter, Anduka.

In 1978, while attending Pine Wood Elementary School, Kimieco was named first runner-up in the Little Miss Black America contest. She later attended DeRidder Junior High School, where she was recognized for her achievements in the President’s Physical Fitness Program.

Kimieco was interred at Community Cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana.

Case Summary

On 12/23/1982, Kimieco was visiting friends at 300 Oak Street in DeRidder. At approximately 1:30 am, she left the residence on foot, heading in the direction of Martin Luther King Jr. Street. At 4:54 am, DeRidder Police Officer Elton Mayes discovered her body along the Vernon Street Extension, south of Bryant Park, approximately two miles from the residence.

Kimieco had been strangled. Physical evidence indicated she had been killed elsewhere and her body thrown from a moving vehicle. Investigators found no evidence of sexual assault.

The location where Kimieco was left also raised questions for investigators. Vernon Street was considered a busy roadway, even after dark, making it an unusually exposed place to dispose of a body. Investigators considered the possibility the person responsible had either acted hurriedly or simply abandoned her at the first available location.

Numerous people who knew Kimieco were interviewed or re-interviewed, and several possible suspects were questioned, but none were charged. Leads were also pursued in Texas, Florida, Mississippi and Virginia, and the FBI was asked to assist.

In 12/1992, Beauregard Crime Stoppers offered a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of anyone involved in her homicide. Authorities renewed their appeal for information in 1995.

Suspects/Persons of Interest

Investigators reported questioning five strong suspects, although their identities were not publicly released. Henry Lee Lucas and Otis Toole were also considered during the investigation but were ruled out because Kimieco’s murder did not fit their known profiles. No arrests were made.
